Our Initiatives

Harvesters takes a creative, holistic approach to solving the problem of hunger in our community through four key initiatives. All are informed by Harvesters’ mission: to collect food, distribute food and educate about hunger.

CHILDHOOD HUNGER INITIATIVE

FEEDING FAMILIES INITIATIVE

Kids Cafe provides nutritious meals for children after school and during the summer.

Kids in the Kitchen provides nutrition education at Kids Cafe and other sites to teach children the importance of nutritious eating and how to prepare healthy snacks.

BackSnack provides a backpack filled with nutritious, child-friendly food for schoolchildren to take home at the end of the week.
Harvesters’ Network feeds as many as 66,000 people every week through food pantries and on-site feeding programs.

Mobile Food Pantry involves the direct delivery of fresh produce and other foods on a regular basis to designated agencies throughout Harvesters' service area.

Holiday Meals are provided to individuals and families in need during November and December.

HEALTHY EATING INITIATIVE

SENIOR FEEDING INITIATIVE

Project STRENGTH is an adult nutrition education and hands-on meal preparation curriculum that teaches recipients about making nutritious food choices and creating healthy meals with limited resources.

Plant A Row for the Hungry is a program that encourages local gardeners to plant an extra row of fruits or vegetables and donate the produce to Harvesters.

Food Rescue links restaurants and cafeterias that donate nutritious, prepared foods with on-site feeding programs such as homeless shelters, domestic violence and low-income day care centers.

Food Drives are Harvesters’ most important source of nutritious, shelf-stable foods like canned fruit and vegetables, peanut butter and other proteins.
Senior Mobile Food Pantry delivers perishable, nutritious foods to low-income and homebound seniors at senior housing sites throughout Harvesters' service area.
