September is Hunger Action Month – a month where people across America stand together with Feeding America and its nationwide network of food banks to fight hunger. It’s a month to raise awareness, resolve to take action and dedicate ourselves to finding solutions.
This year Harvesters has the goal of getting at least 4 people per day to commit to taking action during one day in the month of September. That’s just 120 people. Will you join us?

30 Ways to Take Action in 30 Days

Start a Hunger Action Month piggy bank to collect loose change. At the end of the month, bring any money collected to Harvesters as a family.

Huzzah!! It’s time to visit the Kansas City Renaissance Festival! Donate canned goods to their annual food drive and save big on your tickets!

Will your family accept the SNAP Challenge? Eat on a SNAP benefit budget of $6.20 per person per day. Talk about how it affects what you eat and how you feel?

Awareness is everything – share this calendar on social, email, intranet/website, or group pages to let others know you’re committed to fighting hunger to this month and they can too!

Transform lives by making a donation online or hosting a Facebook Fundraiser. For every dollar donated we can provide two meals.

It’s National Food Bank Day! We hope you’ll come and visit us soon as a volunteer at our Kansas City Warehouse or our new Lawrence Warehouse.

Pack up the kids and a few nonperishable donations and head to Topkea Touch a Truck from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.!

Help us get a jump on the holiday season by packing a Harvesters Holiday Box or two! Let’s make the holidays brighter by providing the comforts and trimmings of a holiday meal.

Learn more about food insecurity in every area of the United States by exploring Feeding America’s interactive Map the Meal Gap tool. Share what you saw with a friend or family member.

It’s Hunger Action Day! Wear orange and post a photo on social to spread the word and show your support! Don’t forget to tag Harvesters!

Honor the victims, survivors and those who rose up in service on 9/11 by scheduling a time to volunteer at Harvesters or with one off our Partner Agencies anytime this month.

Donate nonperishable food items in the barrels at your local HyVee, Price Chopper or Dillons, store. Here’s a list of our most needed items.

It’s National Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day! Let your kids take the lead at meal time and while you’re cooking talk about why healthy food matters for
all of us, including those facing food insecurity.

Become a Barrel Buddy by adopting a grocery store in your area to help pick up food donations from and bring to Harvesters.

It’s National Voter Registration Day! Check your voter registration to make sure you can vote for candidates who support support food security legislation

Help us put together Healthy Family Meal Kits! Each box will have all the necessary ingredients for an easy, complete, nutritious meal for a family in our community facing food insecurity.

Happy First Day of Fall! As cooler weather rolls in, host a canned soup drive to provide warmth, comfort and nourishment for our neighbors. Low sodium soup is a highly requested item by our agency partners!

Help us Give Lunch by preparing and donating nonperishable, ready-to-eat, meals for our community as well as for disaster relief response efforts.

Learn more about food date labels. According to the USDA, More than 90% of Americans may be prematurely tossing out food because of confusing date labels. Learning to understand these dates can help reduce this waste.

Satisfy your sweet tooth while also supporting hunger relief with The Cheesecake Factory’s new Triple Berry Bliss Cheesecake! For every slice sold through July 2025, they’ll donate 25 cents to help fight hunger in our service area and beyond.
