Birthday in a Box
Help us ensure that local kids and adults can enjoy a birthday cake on their special day! Each will go to a household our agency network serves to ensure a birthday doesn’t pass without the means to celebrate.
How It Works:
The Birthday in a Box program has two components: a supply drive followed by a volunteer activity.
Supply Drive:
Each box needs to include all of the items listed below for the box to be complete. Collecting items in bulk or asking several volunteers to purchase in bulk after collecting monetary donations works very well for this drive.
Volunteer Activity:
At the end of your supply drive, coordinate with Harvesters to receive boxes, box labels, cake recipe card, and cards for you to decorate. We encourage you to decorate the cards and boxes with fun Happy Birthday messages!
Each Kit Should Include:
- Boxed Cake Mix
- 1- 12oz Can of Flavored Soda to be used in place of eggs, oil, and water for baking the cake – we recommend orange, grape, or lemon-lime. (Yes, this really works!)
- Tub of Frosting
- Box of Birthday Candles
- Small Bag of Balloons
- Happy Birthday Banner
- Plates
- Cups
- Napkins
- Plastic Utensils: Forks, knives, spoons (all-in-one package)
Please select items that are a solid color or have a general birthday theme so that anyone will enjoy them!
Delivery:
After all of your boxes are complete, please bring them to one of Harvesters’ facilities. Due to limited resources, Harvesters will only be able to pick up a quantity of 100 or more boxes. Once they’re with us, we’ll make sure they get out in the community to where they’re needed most.
*Please note this opportunity does not qualify for Court-Ordered Community Service Hours. If you are not located in our service area, we highly encourage you to find your local food bank and see what opportunities they offer.
